DU FIRST SEMESTER

More than 30 teachers of Delhi University have died of corona infection so far. This number is for teachers studying in DU, which includes both permanent and ad hoc teachers. There are many teachers who were the only basis of livelihood for their family. All deaths occurred between March 1 and May 10.

Many professors are also among those who died of infection. Distinguished scientist Prof. Vinay Gupta of the Department of Physics and Astrophysics also died from Corona. Apart from this, a large number of DU employees have also died, while hundreds of teachers are infected with Corona.
Delhi University Teachers Association President Rajib Ray said that this is a cruel time in which our colleagues are separated from us one by one. He said that this is a matter of concern for us and the teacher community. He said that many retired teachers have also died due to corona infection. The teacher community is working together to help the sick teachers and provide them all kinds of assistance.

Demand for 2.5 million grant
The DU Teachers Association has written a letter to the University Grants Commission demanding the assistance of 2.5 million rupees to the families of the deceased teachers. DUTA President Rajib Ray said that the amount that a teacher will collect for his family during the entire tenure is less than that amount. We have also demanded to provide jobs to family members on compassionate grounds.

Help from DU Teachers Welfare Fund
The families of teachers who have died due to Corona infection will also be provided financial assistance from the DU Teachers Welfare Fund. In a recent meeting of the DU Managing Committee, it was decided that the families of the teachers who died after March 1, will be provided financial assistance of a maximum of one million rupees. A maximum of 10 lakh will be given to the families of teachers up to the age of 40, eight lakh to the families of teachers up to the age of 50 years, and six lakh to the families of the families in the death of teachers above the age of 40 years. It was decided in the meeting that the family members of ad hoc teachers will be given a lump sum of five lakhs, whether they are members of the Teachers Welfare Fund or not.
