The University of Delhi is contemplating and planning to reopen its hostels. Although, due to the pandemic, the working of the hostels will be different. Reportedly only “registered bonafide Ph.D. students” will be allowed to return to the hostels at first that too in a phased manner. The senior Ph.D. students will be given the first preference followed by other Ph.D. students. A notice issued by the varsity mentioned so. Final-year students intending to vacate hostel rooms will be allowed to visit the hostels.

Hostels have been directed by the varsity not to charge for the mess and to take only 50 percent of the monthly electricity and water charges for residents. common room and gym will remain closed, however, the computer room, TV room, library, and reading will be open with safe distancing norms. Additionally to this, the residents will not be permitted to leave the hostel premises except for a medical emergency.

Those students who will be returning to the hostels will have to follow and be in a 14-days self-quarantine in the rooms of their hostels which will be followed by their screening by the WUS Health center. Students will be permitted to attend their respective research laboratories only after completing the quarantine period.

Fellows will be required to provide evidence that they are visiting their respective research laboratories only in the form of a letter from their research supervisors

The official notice of the varsity reads that the University of Delhi acknowledges that it is very important to interact with the hostel residents on a regular basis for an update on their difficulties and in order to boost their morale. Hostel authorities have been advised to work out a process or method to ensure the availability of at least one person for regular interaction with the residents.

As the government has begun ‘unlock’ procedures across the major parts of the country, many other institutes and universities are also considering opening up their facilities.

Universities across India are also looking for the possibilities and options to turn the campus into isolated units to scholarships and pay-later options for families.
