The situation which has emerged because of the COVID-19 situation in Delhi, Delhi University can also reduce its syllabus so that the session carries forward efficiently. A senior official of Delhi University said that they are discussing all the possibilities for which the semester of the students does not get affected.

It has been decided that the University will open the process for admission in the last week of September, or maybe after that. In these cases, Delhi University also faces the challenge of saving one semester.

A senior official of DU said that the CBSE, ICSE and other boards have also reduced their syllabuses. They are also thinking along the same lines. It has not been decided yet how much syllabus will be reduced. The CBSE has reduced 30% of its syllabus and the ICSE has reduced 25%.

However, no central university has declared any such notice.

REDUCTION IN HOLIDAYS

It is being planned that whatever challenges are there in the finishing of the syllabus, because of the coronavirus outbreak, will be completed during the winter holidays. Apart from this, other holidays will be either reduced or canceled. There will also be a reduction in the semester break.

DELAY IN THE POSTGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

The registration date for admission into the undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil, and Ph.D. courses has been increased to July 31. The entrance tests will be conducted in the month of September, after which the admissions will take place.

But in comparison with the undergraduate admissions, the postgraduate admissions will take more time. It is expected that the results of the postgraduate exams of the students of other universities might come by October. In Delhi University, the open book exams of third-year students are scheduled to begin from 10th August.

These exams will continue for the whole of August, after which the answer scripts will go for correction. After this, the results will be declared.

WHY A SYLLABUS-CUT IS NECESSARY?

Generally, a new semester begins at Delhi University by July 20 or 22, and the exams of the semester were held in November-December. But this year, the registration date is till July 31. After this, the students will be given the option of updating their forms from August 1 to August 31. Then, the entrance exams will be organized in September. The results of these exams will be announced.

Between this, the University will release its first cut-off in September. There are many possibilities for the admission process to end in October. In this way, the students of the first semester will receive very little time to study. Therefore, the reduction in the syllabus is being thought over.

Another senior official of the University said that the semester can be completed without a syllabus cut also. But for this, a reduction will have to be made in both the winter holidays as well as the summer holidays. However, the wait for the academic calendar of UGC is still on.
