Delhi University’s Academic Council (AC) on Tuesday passed a proposal. It aims to conduct undergraduate admission in the upcoming year. It will solely be based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
The Common University Entrance Test will not have any weightage to Class 12 marks. This move comes a day just after the University Grants Commission (UGC) declared a similar policy. The policy is for 45 Central universities which will come under it.
The proposal will now approve by DU’s executive council (EC). Its approval is important before implementation. Once approved by the EC, the proposal will serve as the blueprint.
It will be for the implementation of the Common University Entrance Test from the 2022-23 academic session. The upcoming EC meeting is on Friday 25 March.
The AC also authorized modifications to the admission process to all the minority colleges. These colleges include St Stephen’s College as well as Jesus and Mary College, among others.
As per the modifications, admissions to these colleges will also be based on Common University Entrance Test scores. Also, reservations for minority candidates will start again just like before.
Vikas Gupta :
DU registrar named Vikas Gupta verified all the proposals. He also verified on the agenda regarding the implementation of CUET has been approved by the AC.
Vikas Gupta also stroked aside concerns that students will handle difficulties. It will be in switching streams from Class 12 to UG courses.
But note that the varsity has circulated subject-wise eligibility criteria. This is going to make admissions more comprehensive as well as adaptable.
The AC, which has around 100 members, enacted the Common University Entrance Test proposal. It is amid dissent from around nine appointed council members.
Admissions to UG courses through the entrance test will mean detailed erosion of classes 11 and 12. A Central exam, as well as its syllabus, will snuff out the significance of local initiatives and the dignity of formative assessment.
It is a total disregard of the continuous performance of students. And the most crucial year of study will be horrible. Granting admission through CUET will mean total disregard for lab work associated with disciplines.
AC member Mithuraaj Dhusiya told the CUET will result in a complete devaluation of class 12 study as well as marks.
Gupta also stroked aside concerns that students will suffer problems in switching streams. The varsity has now disclosed subject-wise eligibility criteria. It will make admissions more comprehensive as well as adaptable.
Now the eligibility criteria are very adaptable and flexible. We have permitted all students to appear for the CUET. Students will not face any problems in switching streams if they wish to, said Gupta.
