The University of Delhi has appointed its new Pro-Vice-Chancellor. Professor Pooran Chand Joshi (PC Joshi) has taken over the charge as the tenure of outgoing DU VC Yogesh Tyagi ended on 9th March. Interim Vice-Chancellor will continue taking up the charge until a new permanent VC is appointed.
This is being done in accordance with the provisions stated in Delhi University Act, 1922. Newly appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor at DU, Prof. PC Joshi has been a professor at Delhi University’s Department of Anthropology.
In the year 2020, President Ram Nath Kovind had suspended Prof. Yogesh Tyagi over misconduct charges regarding certain official appointments. As per the reports, Prof. Yogesh Tyagi was found guilty of leaving the faculty seats vacant for several years despite repeated reminders. Tyagi was suspended last year in October.

The newly appointed interim Vice-Chancellor Prof. PC Joshi will be the acting Vice-Chancellor in DU and dispense duties of the office until the appointment of a new permanent VC.
The new Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University is expected to be chosen by a committee that will be created by the Union Education Ministry.
