DELHI TO IMPOSE WEEKEND CURFEW, ESSENTIAL SERVICE TO CONTINUE

On Thursday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal declared weekend curfew owing to the surging COVID cases in the last few days in Delhi.

All malls, auditoriums, spas have been asked to stay shut from Friday evening till further notice.

Delhi CM said he had a meeting with L-G. They have decided to impose a weekend curfew in Delhi. This is because people normally go out for work on weekdays and entertainment on weekends. So to smash the chain they are imposing a weekend curfew, freeing essential services.

He added that no dine-in choices will be permitted in restaurants and eateries. only home deliveries will be allowed.

Kejriwal said cinemas halls can regulate with only 30% occupancy.

CM Kejriwal further ensured that there are a sufficient number of beds accessible for the COVID patients in Delhi’s hospitals.

The statement comes after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal met Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal today to review the city’s Covid-19 situation.

DU COLLEGE TEACHERS DEMAND WORK FROM HOME AMIDST RISING CASES

On Thursday, Delhi recorded 17,282 fresh COVID cases, the highest single-day spike Delhi has seen so far. The number of daily COVID deaths has also been rising, on Wednesday, 104 deaths were recorded alone.

Mr. Kejriwal had earlier said a lockdown is not a promising way to slow the spread of the coronavirus and that it would be implemented only if the hospital system declines in Delhi.

Last year, Delhi was under complete lockdown between 22 March 2021 and 18 May 2021 and after this, the capital reopened in phases.

The gravity of the new coronavirus crisis is noticeable at Delhi’s largest crematorium, Nigambodh Ghat, where the number of cremations has ascended from 15 per day to over 30.

This week, the Delhi government-linked banquet halls, sports complexes, schools to hospitals in a move to ramp up beds for COVID treatment. Private hospitals have been notified to devote a chunk of beds for Coronavirus cases.
