On Friday Arindam Chaudhuri was arrested by the Central Goods & Services Tax (CGST) South Delhi Commissionerate under Section 89 of the Finance Act which persuades penalties for circumventing payment of service tax.

Sources told At 4 Pm the formerly high-profile Arindam Chaudhuri, Director of Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) and his colleague were arrested on Friday. A local court took them to 14 days custody.

 

Both have been imprisoned in the case involving an amount of over Rs 23 crore. He was produced before Duty Magistrate Jyoti Maheshwari in Patiala House Court. The investigation is about the assets of Chaudhary and his company in Delhi additional cities of the country as well as abroad.

Chaudhary is charged with an alleged improper claim of Central Value Added Tax (CENVAT) of service tax credit of nearly 23 crore.

The Director of the company, Gurudas Malik Thakur, has also been arrested under the similar offences and carried to 14 days’ judicial custody.

 

In 2015, it was found that the IIPM got distracted when the institute was offering MBA degrees to learners on the basis of false pretenses. Arina dam Chaudhary is also a filmmaker.
