DELHI HIGH COURT DENIES DELHI UNIVERSITY’S APPEAL FOR IN-CAMERA HEARING

The Delhi High Court is listening to a petition concerning the Delhi University online OBE exams. The Delhi University appealed to the HC to hear the case through an in-camera hearing. However, the court denied the demand of the University of Delhi by asserting that this petition pertains to the public interest of the students, how can they proceed with the in-camera hearing.

Delhi High Court told the University of Delhi that there are certain guidelines for conducting camera hearings, and only by adhering to them, the general public is kept out from hearing on any case. The court asserted that it is not possible to go for camera hearings concerning this case when the case is concerned with several students. The camera hearings proceed when the identity of the victim is to be kept hidden, or in case of rape or other sensitive courses.

The High Court is hearing the plea concerning the problems of disabled students about Delhi University’s online OBE exams. The court was informed on behalf of these Delhi University students that they will be requiring comfort letters from the University till the mark sheets are provided.

Delhi High Court: Students Requests Comfort Letters

Students of Delhi University who are seeking admission in foreign universities have requested the University of Delhi to provide them with comfort letters so that the students do not confront any trouble in taking admissions abroad. The Delhi HC is hearing the plea seeking reasonable provisions for PWD category students for the final term exams.

The High Court said that on the very first day of hearing on 11th September, the Delhi University shall file an affidavit about disabled students stating when will the mark sheets will be provided to the students. Also, the affidavit will include data on how many students require comfort letters for seeking admission in foreign institutions.

TEACHERS OF DU DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BY THE VARSITY

The HC further said that we expect that all the University of Delhi departments will work in unity concerning this problem of students and come up with a solution. Furthermore, the University of Delhi told HC that they have curbed resources and they have received answer scripts of over one lakh students. The University included that we will provide mark sheets first to those students who are seeking admission to foreign universities. The hearing is scheduled for September 11.
