Delhi High Court on Tuesday conducted the hearing for the ongoing petition concerning OBE results for final year DU students. Delhi HC has directed the University of Delhi to issue a notification to the principals of all the Delhi University colleges requesting that evaluation for OBE results be accelerated so that the results can be declared by the first week of October for the final year students.

Delhi University professor Rawat informed the court that the University has received over 900 applications demanding comfort letters. The University has sorted out  292 applications of students out of which 14 applications are from PG students. The 900 applications include the applications of students applying for Indian Universities as well.

The DU professor told the court that the University is trying to finish the evaluation process of the PG students who are seeking admissions in foreign Universities. The court has asked DU to declare the results of PG students applying in foreign Universities by September 28.

The court was assessing the facet of assisting the DU students who are seeking admission to foreign Universities.

DELHI HC ASKS DU TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES CONCERNING FINAL YEAR RESULTS

Head of Delhi University’s computer department Dr. Sanjeev Singh said that around 50% of answer scripts submitted via the OBE portal have been assessed. However, for submissions made via e-mail, a tedious procedure of integration and assessment with the DU portal have to be evaluated.

Stating that around 40 officials have been toiling on sorting thousands of OBE answer script submissions made via email, the growth stood at 35%.

Acting Dean of Examination, Professor DS Rawat, in retort to the court’s questioning if the entire evolution procedure could be completed in the 1st or the 2nd week of October, rather October 30 said that after assessment of answer scripts, the result has to be moderated and then grades have to be awarded, which will consume time.

Considering the equilibrium of assessment and the urgency, the HC directed Delhi University to write to its consistent colleges’ Principals to expedite the process.

The court further evaluated the status of issuance of letters to foreign Universities on behalf of DU final year students.

He added that over 277 applications out of the total 292 applications are from undergraduate students and reaming 14 are from postgraduate students.

OBE Results for Final Year Students to be Declared by 28th September

Considering the lesser applications by PG students seeking admissions abroad and the fact that their result has to be issued in percentage-based, the court asked DU to declare results by 28th September.

For undergraduate students seeking admission in foreign Universities, the court directed that the comfort letter comprising provision results be sent to the concerned foreign Universities, as per the cutoff dates.

High Court directed DU that to facilitate students to apply for a visa, DU shall substantiate having sent the comfort letters. The letter should substantiate that the student has been passed.

In its order, Delhi HC permitted DU to release a notification stating the cutoff date for obtaining requests for the comfort letter is 18th September.

The next hearing is scheduled on 23rd September.
