In light of the increasing number of coronavirus infected cases, the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal has announced to deploy 500 railway coaches for the treatment of coronavirus. Over 500 coaches are being prepared to be deployed in Delhi to provide treatment wards for curing Coronavirus.

Recently, the Delhi Government has proclaimed that all the nursing homes and clinics holding between 10 to 49 beds to facilitate only for Covid-19 cases. The state government has exempted the specialized centers such as eye, ENT, IVF, and maternity homes. The Delhi government has granted three days to all such nursing homes and clinics to make all the arrangements. Furthermore, after three days the nursing homes must start functioning as Covid-19 ward and on non-compliance of the order, strict action will be taken against the nursing home.

An order issued by the health department stated that all the nursing homes within the borders of Delhi having the capacity of 10 to 49 beds are proclaimed as Covid-19 treatment ward. The nursing homes have been granted three days to start functioning as coronavirus wards.

As per the sources, Railways is planning to convert 250-300 railway coaches deployed in Anand Vihar into Covid-19 treatment wards. Railways are intending to halt the operation of the train from Anand vihar terminal station to some other station to make expanse for the deployment of 500 coaches.

Railways have planned to assemble one AC coach with other non-AC coaches for the medical staff. The railway coaches have oxygen facilities which have been provided by the railway.

Home Minister of India Amit Shah on Sunday made an announcement that the number of testings for COVID-19 be doubled in Delhi and subsequently be increased to three times by the sixth day. The decision for multiple testing was taken in the conference held between the Union Minister, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal for discussing the measures to bring down COVID-19 tally.

To overcome the rising fear of scarcity of hospital beds for Covid-19 infected individuals, Amit Shah said that the center will give the state 500 railway coaches to deal with the situation. The Union Minister and the Home Minister ensured the Delhi government that the center will mane arrangements for all the necessary resources such as oxygen cylinder and ventilators to fight against coronavirus.

Northern Railway serving the region of Delhi consist of around 520 coaches in all and the Indian railways have around 5321 coaches. As per the direction of Arvind Kejriwal, all 500 coaches working for Delhi will be pressed into the service of COVID-19 infected patients. The Delhi government has already readied one train consisting of 10 nursing coaches. The isolation train has been kept ready in the Shakurbasti washing pit.
