COVID EFFECT: ICSE AND ISC ANNOUNCED TO CUT SHORT THE SYLLABUS FOR 2020-2021 SESSION

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE) Board, has reduced the syllabus for the academic session 2020-21.  The decision has been taken, as a result of the rising coronavirus cases in the country.

Students can go to the official website of the board to check the modifications. For class 9th  and 10th, candidates can check the “ICSE option” and for class 11th and 12th, the “ISC option” available on the CISCE portal.

The board committee with its expert members worked together to reduce the syllabus of all prominent subjects. Due to this, higher classes will have to cover fewer topics.

Syllabus deduction has been done keeping in mind the linear progression across classes while ensuring that the core concepts related to the subject are preserved, said Gerry Arathoon Chief Executive and Secretary of the Council in the circular released on 3 July.

The Secretary directed all the principals of affiliated schools to update the revised syllabus in their respective schools. So that teachers could transact the syllabus strictly according to the sequence of the topics. The sequence teaching is essential in order to facilitate further reduction if any, depending upon the prevailing COVID 19 situation, he added.

Most of the CISCE affiliated schools have endeavored hard to adopt the new scenario. Under this, many schools have kept teaching and learning alive with the assistance of online classes on a regular basis. However, this academic year has recorded a significant loss in terms of teaching hours and offline classes.

CBSE ASKS SCHOOLS TO CONDUCT RE-EXAMS FOR 9TH AND 11TH FAILED STUDENTS

Earlier, CBSE has also announced that they are laboring to reduce the syllabus up to 33% for classes 9 to 12. However, the whole chapter would not be scrapped.

According to the Board Head, the repeated topics will be subtracted so that the ” essential and conceptual learning” should not be negatively influenced. Also, the paper pattern will be revised for the year 2021.
