The aided and unaided colleges, private and government universities of Punjab to open from 21st January 2021. The Punjab government ordered the reopening of educational institutions in the state. The institutions were kept closed for almost a year now.
The guidelines are issued by the Punjab government for the operation of the colleges in the coronavirus pandemic. The colleges and universities need to abide by the precautionary measures. The Higher Education Department has issued the letter which states the guidelines to be followed by the universities and colleges in the state.
The guidelines are made in the interest of the students and suggest the classes to be held in both online and offline mediums. The official spokesperson mentioned that all the educational institutes need to abide by it.
Further stated that the choice remains in the hands of the students. No college or educational institute can force the students to physically attend the classes. However, it must be noted that the Punjab government said that the semester/annual exams will be held only in offline mode.
Following the guidelines and instructions of COVID -19, the colleges and universities can allow the opening of the hostels. Some factors like distance and safety of the students, year, of course, must be considered while allotment of rooms. Like keeping in view, the size of the room one or more person should be allowed. Moreover, the final year students will get the priority in hostel room allotment.
The educational institutes must open the canteens/mess as per the guidelines of the health ministry. Plus, all safety measures must be sincerely adopted.
In the best interest of the safety of the students, all the guidelines issued by the Centre, Punjab government, and the Higher Educational Department must be followed by the universities and colleges all across the state.
Earlier in the phased opening of colleges, only the final year students of sciences and medicine were allowed to reopen with 50 % attendance. The first phase of reopening started on November 16.
