NIOS declared that students with special needs to not have to appear for classroom exams. They will be evaluated on the basis of project work and question-answer based assessment.

As the nation is suffering from the coronavirus pandemic from the month of March and educational institutions have been shut down temporarily, some things are left to be undone. Some exams were left to be conducted for class 10th and 12th students. CBSE has decided to cancel remaining exams for class 10th and 12th students and students are given an option to appear for those pending exams late or evaluate the marks of pending exams by their pre-board performance. This option is given to only class 12th students. Remaining exams of CBSE Board of class 10th students are canceled. CISCE board have also given an option to students that those students who want to appear for classroom exams can give their pending exams or students can get their results on the basis of previous performances.

NIOS IS GOING TO CONDUCT EXAMS FROM JULY 17

National School Of Open Learning (NIOS) is going to conduct exams from July 17 to August 13. But it is a major problem with students with special needs. It is difficult for them to find writers in the coronavirus outbreak. Moreover, it is not safe for them to travel to the examination hall. In view of the current pandemic situation and awful conditions, the National School of Open Learning(NIOS) has decided to cancel exams of students with special needs that have registered for their senior secondary class 12th examinations. NIOS said that students with special needs will be examined by way of projects or question-answer based assessments instead of appearing for classroom exams. Students have to submit at least two modules of assignments that are the compulsory portion of theory for exams. The modules will be of 40 marks each.

This news by NIOS of the cancellation of exams for students with special needs are only for class 12th students. NIOS has still not clarified for class 10th students with special needs who are going to appear for exams at the same time. It would give details of the evaluation scheme later. This decision is made when students and parents requested the board to either postponed exams or cancels the remaining exams. They said that it would not be safe for students to reach the examination center to appear for exams.

PARENTS ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THIS DECISION
Geetha Sequeira is an assistant teacher at Childreach. It is a school that caters to students with special needs. She said that students are not clarified with the circular and it developing stress for students. She said that there is no information for class 10 students. Preparing projects and assignments at this point in time will be stressful for students. Some students are preparing for exams going to be conducted in October. For them, it will be more stressful. Parents are not happy with this decision. According to them when the other boards have canceled exams for students, NIOS cannot put pressure on the students. It is a burden on students to prepare projects and study for October exams at the same time.
