The State Government of West Bengal has recently announced that all the educational institutions in West Bengal would continue to remain shut till 30th September. Soon after the Supreme Court’s decision, CISCE (Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations) who have previously decided to reopen educational institutions including schools from 21st September, is now intending to reconsider its decision.
Before the West Bengal Government announced the reopening of schools, the CISCE on Wednesday had sent a notification for a partial reopening of schools and proposed that the time be used to make up the loss incurred on practical and project work.
The council chief executive and secretary, Gerry Arathoon on Wednesday said that a meeting will be held soon. Also, a fresh notice will be issued in a day or two specifically for the state of Bengal. He added that ISC and ICSE students can’t perform their practicals at home. So, when the guidelines were issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the council agreed to assist students to perform their practical work and practice the same.
In the freshly released notification by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), it was issued that the schools are instructed to utilize this time to practice adequate practical work in the school labs, as per the subjects mentioned in the revised syllabus.
Meanwhile, Partha Chatterjee West Bengal Minister said that he is not familiar with the decision taken by the ISCE council. The Central government had declared that all the educational institutions will remain shut till 30th September. There is no alternative in the announced decision.
CISCE has curtailed the academic syllabus for 10th and 12th students up to 25% for ISC, and ICSE board exams to be commenced in the year 2021. This conclusion was taken after offline school-based education was disrupted during the coronavirus lockdown in which all the educational institutions affiliated to the council stayed closed.
