Jamia Milia Islamia, in association with the Department of Geography of the university, has begun its 18th (1st online) two-week refresher course in Environmental Studies and Geography from November 9-24, 2020 for skill-building and training of more than 80 young faculty members from different universities and colleges across India. Jamia Milia Islamia is the UGC-Human Resource Development Center.
With a welcome address by Prof. Anisur Rehman, the inaugural session started on November 09, 2020. The Chief Guest of the inaugural session was Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor, JMI. The Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker for the inaugural session was Prof. Ajit Mishra, Director of the Institute of Economic Growth, Anisur Rehman, Director of UGC-HRDC, JMI, Dr. R.S. Rawal, Director of G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development, Mary Tahir, HOD Geography, JMI, the faculty members of the Department of Geography, JMI, and the participants from different colleges and universities.
Prof, Najma Akhtar, during her inaugural address, underlined the significance of the refresher course on Environmental Studies for the participants. She congratulated the Department of Geography, JMI, and the UGC-HRDC for organizing this important program and was impressed by the theme that was entitled ‘Spatiality and Sustainability for an Inclusive Future.’ She stressed that incorporating economic, geographical, environmental, and social equity and justice is critical for a resilient and inclusive society.
Prof. Ajit Mishra delivered the first keynote address. He emphasized the challenges related to shared prosperity, inclusive growth, and vulnerabilities. Pro. R.S. Rawal delivered the second keynote address. He emphasized integrating spatial considerations in rural transformation within the context of the Indian Himalayas.
