On 30 March 2021, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Education Minister, inaugurated the center for happiness in the Indian Institute of Management (IIM-Jammu).

The newly launched ‘Anandam’, mentioned Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, has been developed following the principle of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) which aims at transforming the country’s education system by 2021.

Education Minister further mentioned that this new center will help in reducing the mental pressure of students and faculty working in the institute. Due to deadlines, coursework, teaching-load, and professional and personal life pressure, these people involved in intense and occupying academic backgrounds, often undergo stress and pressure. This new initiative aims at addressing and solving that issue. Purposes like encouraging and propagating holistic development for all the stakeholders at IIM Jammu alongwith helping people to overcome mental stress and help spread positivity will be major concerns of the center.

‘Anandam’, IIM Jammu’s center for happiness will be further divided into five broad categories:

  • counseling,
  • holistic wellness,
  • elective courses on happiness development,
  • research and leadership,
  • faculty development

Education Minister ‘Nishank’ further added that for both the students and the faculty, a holistic well-being will be ensured by the institute alongwith regular physical exercises which will contribute to the wellness at the physical level.
