Delhi University

The summer vacation of Delhi University has been extended till July 31. Now, the University will open on August 1. A letter has been written by the DUTA (Delhi University Teacher’s Association) highlighting the concerns of which are raised by the ad-hoc teachers. The university did not reply to the letter.

As the vacation is now extended, the ad-hoc teachers of the University will have to go without any income for yet another month. The ad-hoc teachers are paid by the University for the vacation days too if they are present on the last and first working day of before and after the vacation.

Priya Bansal, an ad-hoc teacher said that May 25 was supposed to be the last date but was later extended to be June 12. She said that some of them have worked till June 12 and received their salary for that time while some have not. Now, there is a discrepancy as to what will be the last date- May 25 or June 12?

She added that there is no clarity. The University has verbally told us that we will be paid when we join but any document confirmation has not come yet.

In its letter, DUTA had also expressed its concern about the same issue. The letter read that any measure taken by the University/colleges should not have an adverse effect on the services or livelihood if its teachers. The University must issue guidelines regarding joining for all the colleges as this is a matter of livelihood for more than 4,500 teachers. This clarity is essential as there are only two working days left now. The clarity will help in avoiding any confusion and anxiety.
