ACADEMIC COUNCIL APPROVES HOLDING DU COMMON ENTRANCE TEST

On Friday, the Academic Council of Delhi University approved the proposal of the DU Common Entrance Test (CET) for the next academic session. However, 17 Academic Council members keep dissenting opinions against it. 

As the proposal has been passed, now the proposal needs to approve by the Executive Council also. Accordingly, the meeting will hold on 17 December 2021 for a final decision. 

Nine council members agree with the proposal to hold the entrance exam and said this will considerably increase objectivity during admission.  

The committee formed under Dean DS Rawat examines the over and under admission numbers in DU. The committee analyze it through state board-wise distribution and gave a proposal. It said unbiased admission can achieve with the Common Entrance Test. 

The panel said, “The Common Entrance Test (CET) should be executed for admission to the university. This exam may administer through the internal arrangement of the varsity or by any external agency.”

Further, the committee has suggested that an admission entrance test can hold after the list of eligible candidates for admission to all colleges and departments will release. Additionally, the committee also said that this will provide opportunities to all students.

On the other hand, Mithuraaj Dhusiya, the council member said, “DU Common Entrance Test for undergraduate admissions will result in more coaching institutions. And this is bad in both ways socially as well as economically for several students.”

Similarly, Alok Pandey, a member of AC said that this will distract students from focusing on their school studies. Because they will try to take coaching to get admission to a most prestigious university.

Besides, the council also discusses commencing B.Tech, Ph.D., and Master in Nanomedicine from the next academic session 2022-23.
