Delhi University has decided to establish a school of climatic changes and sustainability so that students can learn about different changes in the environment and their effects.
It is important to preserve the environment and adapt to climatic changes. But, adapting it simultaneously with the environment is not possible. Therefore, University of Delhi has decided to establish a school of system change and sustainability so that students could know about human resources that they are capable to use on a sudden effect of climatic changes.

WHAT IS THE AIM OF ESTABLISHING A NEW SCHOOL?

The university along with climatic changes, will train students to know about the possibilities of sustainable development. This decision of establishing a school of climatic changes and sustainability is taken under the Institute of Eminence(IoE) scheme. The Honorary Director of the school will be Professor C.R. babu. Professor Inderjit Singh will be the Joint Director. Professor R.S. Sharma will join as an officer on special duty. This decision is taken with respect to the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

A STEP TOWARDS MAKING IT AS A ‘WORLD-CLASS’ UNIVERSITY

Environmental changes lead to depletion of natural resources, loss of biodiversity, different forms of pollution. It leads to climatic changes, loss of fisheries and many more other negative effects. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is a part of environmental change. It has led to the loss of ecological integration. With the school of climatic change and sustainability, there are certain sustainable development goals that the university wants to promote and achieve. Moreover, they will focus on national development and try to make Delhi University as a ‘world-class university’.

DIFFERENT ISSUES OF CLIMATIC CHANGES

In order to put this idea ahead, the University will first conduct research and training with different departments of Delhi University. Research and training will also be conducted with other institutions across India and the world. Different issues of climatic change and sustainability would be taken into consideration. Some of the subjects are climatic changes biodiversity-ecosystem services, climatic change water agriculture energy, climate disasters development, transportation climate change health and climate change migration conflict. All these subjects of climatic changes and sustainability would be taken into consideration.

MAIN TOPICS TO FOCUS ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT BY DELHI UNIVERSITY

There are certain questions that Delhi University will focus on during research and training. Those are :
• How we can make cities climate resilient?
• How we can achieve sustainability in the face of environmental changes?
The authority said that the school will also generate much-needed man powers in areas that manage sustainable developmental technologies and in areas of energy and resource cycling. It includes wastewater management, solid waste management and resource enhancement so that the development is sustainable.
