On 12 September 2021, DU celebrated its 99th Foundation Day. During this event, the varsity honored seven notable Delhi University alumni.
On this occasion, the university decided to honor its prominent alumni for their accomplishments. The seven alumni include Kiren Rijiju, a Union Law Minister; former Puducherry lieutenant governor, Kiran Bedi.
Further, others bestowed alumni include filmmaker Imtiaz Ali; Justice Inderjeet Mohanty, Chief Justice of Rajasthan high court; Amit Khare, higher education secretary; PK Mishra, principal secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Ali and Amit Khare physically attended the event. Amir khare said, “It is the first time that I’m coming into Viceregal Lodge, though I studied at St Stephen’s College.” Whereas, Imitiaz Ali expressed his happiness and said DU is the beating heart of India.
The university celebrated its 99th Foundation day in the Convention Hall with a small gathering. The celebration was considered to be held on 1 May 2021. However, it was deferred due to the surge of Covid-19 cases in April.
During the event Registrar, Vikas Gupta said, “To honor the eminent alumni was the primary goal of the celebration. The alumni have fetched laurels to their alma mater through dedication and greatness in their fields. Further, the celebration was also to praise the awardees for their contribution to Delhi University.”
Besides the Delhi University alumni award, on Saturday’s event, University bestowed additional 29 awards. It includes teaching and non-teaching staff, in-service and retired staff. They were honored under different categories.
Moreover, Nishtha Dhriti Satyam Samman, the highest award of the university was conferred to Prof Jitendra P Khurana and Pammi Dua. Both are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the university’s development.
