100% CUTOFFS, STILL TOP DU COLLEGES STRUGGLE WITH OVER ADMISSION

DU FOURTH CUT-OFF LIST

Despite the sky soaring 100 % cutoffs, Delhi University colleges are receiving a tremendous amount of admissions leading to over-admissions. BA (Hons) Political Science is offered at both Hindu College and Ramjas College at 100% cutoffs. But, these colleges received 70 and 20 applications respectively from students with exact 100% marks on the first day itself. Thus, the colleges with limited seats are struggling with over-admissions.

Hindu and Ramjas overcrowded even after 100 % cutoff

As per data, 4,500 students from the humanities field secured 100 % in boards. Thus, over-admission is inevitable. In Hindu College, despite the 100 % cutoff for PSc., 70 students applied on day 1. But, the available seats in the PSc department are only 49 out of which only 20 are for unreserved students. Similarly, Ramjas had received 20 applications on day 1 of admissions despite the 100 % cutoffs. The available seats in the Political Science department at Ramjas are 78 out of which only 31 are unreserved.

Anju Shrivastava, the Hindu college Principal claimed that they even received more than 200 applications for BSc (Hons) Physics. However, the cutoff for this course is 99.66 that is fairly high.

Also, at Hansraj College, the cutoff for BSc Computer Science is 100 for the available 58 seats. But, 23 applications were already approved on Day 1. Thus, BSc Computer Science turned out to be one of the most popular courses with 100 % cutoffs in 3 colleges. They include Hansraj, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, and Shaheed Sukhdev college.

Will the 100 % cutoff go down in 2nd list?

Several DU college principals state that they will wait till tomorrow, i.e., October 6 before any analysis. Hence, they will calculate the number of admissions in the 1st list for these popular subjects and will decide then. Also, the drop in cut-offs highly depends on the seat availability which is not happening currently.
