The University of Delhi provides a 2-year full-time course of Master of Commerce degree. The department for the same was established in 1967, becoming one of the most prestigious courses in the country. The course provides for the academic needs of the students and also preps them for research and teaching in business studies. The potential candidates would be able to apply for the course via University website. The admission is granted on the basis of direct merit-based admission and admission through entrance based exam.

ELIGIBILITY

The candidate must consider his/her eligibility before applying to the course. The admission shall not be granted to the ineligible candidates.

There are separate eligibility criteria for the candidates pursuing the admission based on Merit and Entrance Exam.

MERIT-BASED

The candidate must have passed B.Com (Hons) / B.Com (Pass) / B.Com Degree from the University of Delhi or any other recognized institution. Minimum marks required by B.Com (Hons ) candidate from general category is 65%; from OBC category is 58.5%, and from CW/ PwD / SC / ST category is 50 %. For the candidates from B.Com ( Pass ) / B.Com (Degree), the minimum marks required are 70% for general category; 63% for OBC category and 65% for CW and PWD category.

It should be noted that securing the requisite percentage does not always guarantee admission to the course due to there are a limited number of seats reserved for the category.

ENTRANCE BASED

The candidate must have passed B.Com (Hons) / B.Com (Pass) / B.Com Degree / B.B.S / B.B.A / B.I.F.A/ B.B.E / B.A (Hons) Economics from University of Delhi or any other recognised institution.The minimum marks required for B.Com (Hons) and B.A (Hons) Economics are 50% for general category and 45% for OBC / CW / PWD / SC / ST category. For B.Com (Pass) / B.Com (Degree) candidates the minimum marks required are 55% for general category ; 49.5% for OBC category and 54% for CW, PwD , SC and ST categories. For B.B.S / B.B.A / B.I.F.A / B.B.E candidates the cut off is 60 % for general category, 55% for CW, PWD, SC, ST categories and 54% for OBC category.

The total number of seats available for Entrance based admission is 185 and Merit-based admission is 174.

ENTRANCE EXAM AND RESULT

The entrance test conducted by the University for M.Com will be of 200 marks. It will be a 3 hours exams consisting of 200 objective type questions. The paper will include five sections – Economics, Accounting, Business Standard and Mathematics, Business Organisation and Management and General Knowledge and Current Affairs. Each section contains 40 questions. The syllabus for the exam is same as that of B.Com (honours) for the convenience of the applicants.

The result for the exam will be announced by the University online. The result will be available in the form of a PDF containing the Roll No, Marks Obtained, Category Rank and Unreserved Rank of the Qualified candidates.

The applicant will be required to submit certain documents at the time of application.

COUNSELLING SESSION

The counselling session will be held at the Department of Commerce at Delhi School of Economics. The details of the session will be provided by the University and the counselling will take place as per the same schedule.

Candidates in Category A, i.e, the ones with direct Admission shall be called in accordance to their rank in Merit and graduation score and in Category B, i.e, the ones with Entrance Based Admission will be called according to their ranks.

There are some guidelines to be kept in mind for the Counselling Session:

  • Candidates should be present at the day of counselling. The inability to do may result in their losing the seat. If they are not present on the allotted day, they should be subsequent days.
  • Documents required by the candidate, along with their attested copies are as follows :
  1. Class X mark sheet
  2. Class XII mark sheet
  3. Class X original certificate
  4. Class XII original certificate
  5. Provisional certificate and mark sheet of the qualifying examination
  6. Character Certificate ( recent, six months )
  7. Category Certificate
  8. Migration Certificate: required for those who have passed their qualifying examination outside Delhi
  • The request for change of the allotted day shall not be entertained.
  • The admission formalities by candidates must be fulfilled within 3 working days from the date of Counselling. If not then the offer of the admission will be cancelled and the seat will pass to the next eligible candidate.
