The higher education department on Friday appealed to around 250 Odisha colleges giving self-financing courses. For the state to be involved in registration on the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) portal. These institutions do not contain an AISHE code.

The ministry of education began AISHE in the year 2010-11 to create a powerful database. To reckon the correct image of higher education in the nation. Official origins said Odisha has 1054 colleges. The AISHE reveals an index of overall 800 colleges. Around 250 Odisha colleges are yet to correct their data on the AISHE portal. As an outcome of which they do not have an AISHE code.

A senior officer of the branch said the state’s gross enrolment ratio (GER). It will be summed using data uploaded by the HEls on the AISHE portal. Because of occasional colleges enlisted on the AISHE portal. The number of students is also reducing. Our ranking is also not getting higher.

He said students require the AISHE code of a college while referring to fellowship under different fellowship schemes of the Centre. Students of these 250 Odisha colleges will not acquire Central fellowships due to the drawback of their institution.

Specialists said uploading data on the AISHE portal. It is vital because the National Assessment and Accreditation Council’s (NAAC) grade relies on AISHE’s report. The college principal said that the NAAC grade is important for attaining funds from the Centre. Hence, data upload on the AISHE portal has a relationship with NAAC grade as well as the Central fund.

Rajat Kumar Mansingh, deputy director, of the performance tracking cell (PTC), higher education department, said, “It is an issue of worry and the government has chosen not to permit those HEls to take students from the upcoming academic session in the year 2023-24 along with their authorization and recognition will be taken.”

The department has instructed its regional directors of education at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Balasore, as well as Jeypore to enquire into this topic and instruct the HEls running under their jurisdiction without AISHE code to enlist their institution within 15 days according to the policies of AISHE to receive the required code.
